Many patients come to us frustrated after being dismissed with a quick checklist or a 15-minute appointment elsewhere.
At In Focus First, we believe that an accurate diagnosis is the most important tool in mental health.
We move beyond simple symptom tracking to offer a rigorous, medically-grounded diagnostic process here in Carmel.

      • Our 4-Step Diagnostic Protocol:

        • 1. Clinical Diagnostic Interview (The “Deep Dive”): We start with a comprehensive history. We don’t just ask about focus; we look at sleep, anxiety, family history, and developmental milestones. This helps us rule out other conditions that often mimic ADHD, ensuring we aren’t treating the wrong problem.
        • 2. Standardized Rating Scales: We utilize clinically validated assessment tools (such as the Vanderbilt, Conners, or ASRS scales) to gather data from multiple environments—home, school, and work. This provides a 360-degree view of how symptoms are impacting daily life.
        • 3. Biomarker & Metabolic Analysis: Unlike standard clinics that only look at symptoms, we offer advanced functional testing (like DUTCH and OAT) to identify biological root causes—such as hormonal imbalances or metabolic issues—that can mimic ADHD.
        • 4. The Results & Feedback Session: We don’t just hand you a confusing report and send you on your way. You will sit down with your provider to review the findings in plain English. We explain how your brain works and develop a tailored treatment plan—whether that involves medication, coaching, or lifestyle adjustments.

Common Questions About ADHD Testing in Carmel

Do I need a referral to schedule ADHD testing?

No. You can schedule directly with us. We often have availability within 2 weeks, avoiding the long wait times typical of major hospital systems.

        Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network practice. This allows us to provide longer, more comprehensive evaluations without insurance companies dictating the length of your care. We can provide a “Superbill” for you to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

Do you treat anxiety as well?

Absolutely. We specialize in complex cases where ADHD overlaps with anxiety, autism, OCD, depression, mood disorders or sleep issues. Our medication management focuses on treating the whole person, not just one symptom.

How often will I have appointments?

Our long-term goal for every patient is stability, which typically allows for visits every 3 months. However, safety comes first. “ADHD symptoms” can sometimes be caused by other complex conditions, such as Bipolar Disorder or Anxiety. If your diagnosis requires careful medication adjustment to ensure stability, we will see you more frequently until you are safe. We tailor the visit frequency to your medical needs, not a rigid schedule.

How do current DEA telehealth regulations affect my care?

Under the current federal extension, DEA-registered psychiatric practitioners in Indiana can prescribe controlled and non-controlled ADHD medications, when warranted, by telehealth through December 31, 2026, without a prior in-person appointment at our carmel office. However, the secure telehealth video consultation must be a real-time, audio-visual session to meet Indiana state compliance.
